Climate Change in the United States

I still find it insane that some people deny the existence of climate change. It has been proved multiple times with science and if you need any more evidence you can look at Venus. As such I wondered, why is climate change not the biggest concern of the United States government? I came up with two reasons why.

  1. Oil

According to https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=39413, in 2018 43 U.S. oil producers had a total net income of $28 billion. This is a lot of money for the economy. However, what if we start using renewables for electricity? The money will still flow into the economy and it would be better for the environment.

2. Age

According to https://www.senate.gov/CRSpubs/b8f6293e-c235-40fd-b895-6474d0f8e809.pdf the average age of a senator is 61.8 years old, However, according to https://factfinder.census.gov/faces/nav/jsf/pages/community_facts.xhtml?src=bkmk, the medium age in the united states is 37.8 years old. While climate change will affect most Americans in their lifetimes it is not a major priority for senators.

If you disagree with anything I said in my post, please leave a comment. I want to expose myself to different viewpoints, I am, after all, still a teen. Thanks for reading.
